Benefits
Star Pose, or Five-Pointed Star, is an expansive standing posture that stretches the entire body. It opens the chest and shoulders, strengthens the legs and core, and promotes a sense of openness, confidence, and energy.
Practice Guide
Stand facing the long edge of your mat. Step or hop your feet wide apart, about 3.5 to 4.5 feet, or as wide as your wrists when arms are extended.
Turn your feet out slightly (about 15-30 degrees) or keep them parallel, depending on comfort and the next pose.
Extend your arms out to the sides at shoulder height, parallel to the floor, reaching actively through your fingertips.
Engage your leg muscles, lifting your kneecaps. Press firmly and evenly into all four corners of both feet.
Lengthen your spine from your tailbone to the crown of your head. Keep your core gently engaged.
Broaden across your collarbones and chest. Relax your shoulders down away from your ears.
Gaze softly forward. Hold, breathing deeply, feeling the expansion. This pose is often a transition or a brief hold.
Modifications
Adjust the width of the stance as needed for comfort and stability.
Keep hands on hips if shoulders are fatigued.
Experiment with turning feet slightly out or keeping them parallel.
Can be used as a dynamic transition between wide-legged poses.
