Benefits
Child's Pose is a restorative forward fold that gently relaxes the front body while stretching the back torso, hips, thighs, and ankles. It calms the brain, helps relieve stress and fatigue, and can ease back and neck pain when supported.
Practice Guide
Kneel on the floor. Touch your big toes together and sit on your heels, then separate your knees about as wide as your hips (or keep them together).
Exhale and fold forward, laying your torso down between your thighs (if knees wide) or resting on thighs (if knees together).
Rest your forehead gently on the floor or a block/cushion.
Arms can be extended forward alongside ears, palms down; or relaxed alongside your body, palms facing up.
Allow your shoulders to relax and release towards the floor.
Breathe softly and hold the pose for several breaths or longer.
To exit, use your hands to gently push your torso upright.
Modifications
Knees together or wide apart.
Arms extended forward, alongside body palms up, or hands stacked under forehead.
Place blanket under knees, ankles, or forehead for padding.
Support torso fully with a bolster placed between knees for deep restoration.
Safety Notes
⚠Diarrhea
⚠Pregnancy (only with knees very wide to accommodate belly, or modify)
