Benefits
Fire Log Pose (Double Pigeon) provides an intense stretch for the outer hips, glutes, and piriformis. It requires significant external hip rotation and can calm the mind when practiced mindfully.
Practice Guide
Sit tall on floor or blanket. Bend right knee, place right shin parallel to front of mat. Flex right foot.
Bend left knee and stack left shin directly on top of right shin, aiming for ankle over knee and knee over ankle. Flex left foot.
Keep both feet actively flexed to protect knees.
If top knee lifts high, place support (blanket/block) underneath it or in the gap between knee/ankle.
Stay seated upright, spine long, OR inhale lengthen, exhale hinge forward from hips, keeping back flat initially. Rest hands/forearms on floor/blocks in front.
Breathe deeply into hip sensation. Hold. Exit: Carefully unstack legs, extend them. Repeat with left shin on bottom.
Modifications
Place a folded blanket or block in the space between the top knee and bottom ankle/foot if there's a large gap.
Sit on a blanket to help tilt the pelvis forward.
Practice Half Fire Log: Keep the bottom leg extended straight (like Staff Pose) while placing the top shin across.
Stay upright instead of folding forward if the stretch is already intense.
Ensure active foot flexion on both feet throughout.
Safety Notes
⚠Knee injury or pain (high risk if alignment incorrect or hips tight - avoid if painful, ensure shins parallel, use props)
⚠Sacroiliac (SI) joint issues
⚠Lower back problems (avoid forward fold if disc issues, support spine)
⚠Hip replacement or serious hip injury (avoid or consult doctor)
